This post is intended to give readers an idea of the difference between knit and woven fabrics.

Knitted fabric is made by spinning machine or knitting machine to weave yarn into fabric. It is soft, comfortable and breathable, with bright colors and diverse patterns, and is one of the commonly used fabrics for clothes. However, knitted fabrics have poor tensile strength and are easy to break.

Woven fabrics are made by weaving yarns into fabrics through shuttle looms. It is sturdy and has high tensile strength, making it suitable for the body part of clothes. However, woven fabrics are less elastic and not as soft and comfortable as knitted fabrics.

The difference between knitted and woven fabrics is mainly reflected in the following aspects:

1. Fabric structure:

Knitted fabrics are made of yarns bent into loops and connected by string sets, the loops are the smallest basic unit of knitting.

Woven fabrics are interwoven by the warp and weft, is the intersection of warp and weft yarns as the smallest basic unit.

2. Fabric use:

Knitted fabrics are often used to make T-shirts, sweaters and other intimate apparel because of their good elasticity.

Woven fabrics, on the other hand, are mostly used to make jeans9, suits°, down jackets° and other wearable and durable articles.

3. The basic unit of organization:

The loop of a knitted fabric consists of a single yarn that can be made to achieve an increase in height and a decrease in width at different tensions with good extensibility.

Woven fabrics have points of organization where the warp and weft yarns intersect and these points are the most stable part of the fabric.

4 Fabric characteristics:

Knitted fabrics are usually soft in texture and delicate in feel, with good breathability and elasticity.

Woven fabrics are stiffer, rough to the touch, durable and not easily deformed.

5. Texture characterization:

Knitted fabrics are made of yarn bent between empty, each loop consists of a yarn, the texture is more subtle.

Woven fabric texture is more obvious, common twill, dry texture, jacquard and so on.

6. Production process:

Knitted fabrics are usually made of elastic fibers or blended fibers, and the production process is complicated, requiring more time and cost.

Woven fabrics, on the other hand, use a variety of fibers and yarns, and the production process is relatively simple.
